About Jake

My 9 year old dog Jake has been struggling for a while now with hip dysplasia and arthritis. We just recently started going to a great vet that my friend Adrienne recommended. We are controlling his pain with different drugs but thought we were going to have to put him down soon and we were so extremely sad. When I took him to the vet for his arthritis shot, the doctor said Jake was still young and the rest of his body is in great shape so that he would be a good candidate for hip replacement surgery. Jake will have to wait until the pain meds don’t work as well anymore to have the surgery because the vet who will do the procedure won’t do it until then. He is all the way at Ohio State in Columbus but he specializes in hip replacements.

I was so deliriously happy when I heard that he could handle hip replacement and that I wouldn’t have to lose my furry little sibling! Keep praying for him please. Jake has touched everyone’s lives that have met him. My friend Anna was terrified of dogs until she met him. Jake used to walk my 96 year old grandma to the bathroom, wait till she got out, and then would walk her back to her rocking chair. The night Aunt Florence died, he put his head in her lap and just stood there. He fed a piece of chicken to a puppy instead of eating it himself. Normally he would use all his strength to pull a toy rope with you, but when my 4 year old cousin picked up the rope to play, he knew she was small so he pulled gently. He always knows what you’re thinking. If you merely think about taking a picture of him, he hides because he is scared of the flash. If you look into his eyes while thinking about taking him for a walk or a car ride, he gets up immediately and starts barking. He likes to roll his head on ice patches, and stick his whole head into piles of snow. He runs through the snow with his tongue dragging. He attacks snow shovels and skateboards because he thinks they’re hurting us. He likes to lay his paw on your leg when you’re sitting with him. He loves to swim in the lake and eat dead fish if he finds one. He hates baths but afterwards gets hyper because he loves feeling clean, and he runs under you and tries to knock you over with his head. I would do anything for him. Some people may think that’s weird, but he’s my brother. How could I not?

  • I love Jake. I’m so glad he’s going to be okay. I would cry for days..

He’s the cutest doggie. My favorite doggie. My only doggie. I can’t ever not give in to his cute widdleness.. His face on your lap is the cutest thing ever..

When I’m down.. seeing Jake all excited to see me just puts a smile on my face no matter what.. Like yesterday.. eventhough he didn’t have enough energy to show his enthusiasm like normally, I could see it in his face..

    I love my Jakey.

  • And Jakey loves you! You’re his favorite non-related friend!
